2021.12.06 09:07 goddessofwriting Opinions Welcome: Play about Job

Narrator _____________________________ God’s voice (powerful, booming voice) _____________________________ Satan (wearing red shirt, black pants, maybe black vest; charming, & confident) _____________________________ Job _____________________________ Eliphaz the Temanite _____________________________ Bildad the Shuhite _____________________________ Zophar the Naamathite _____________________________ Elihu son of Barachel _____________________________ Job’s wife _____________________________ Servant 1 _____________________________ Servant 2 _____________________________ Servant 3 _____________________________
(Narrator walks onto the stage.)
Narrator: Job was a blameless man from Uz who feared God. He had seven sons and three daughters. He also possessed 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 1,000 oxen, 500 female donkeys, and many servants. Now it happened that Satan came to present himself before the Lord, and the Lord said to Satan…
(We hear God’s voice from off-stage.)
God’s voice: From where do you come?
Narrator: Satan answered the Lord…
(Satan enters the scene.) Satan: From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it?
Narrator: And the Lord said to Satan…
God’s voice: Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth. He is a blameless man, who fears God and turns away from evil?
Narrator: Then Satan answered the Lord…
Satan: Does Job fear God for no reason? Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hand, and his possessions, and have increased his land. But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse You to Your face.
Narrator: And the Lord said to Satan…
God’s voice: Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.
Narrator: So Satan went out from the presence of God.
(Narrator and Satan leave stage from opposite sides. Job enters the scene. Everything seems fine when all of a sudden servant 1 comes running into the scene.)
Servant 1: (a bit upset) So, boss, I’ve got some good news and some bad news. Which do you want first?
Job: I guess I’ll take the bad news first.
Servant 1: Okay, so there I was, minding my own business. I see the oxen plowing in the field with the donkeys feeding right beside them when all of a sudden the Sabeans come out of nowhere and struck down your servants with swords. They killed everything in sight.
Job: Oh, my! So what’s the good news?
Servant 1: Oh... well I alone escaped to tell you the tale.
Job: (throwing hands up) And?
Servant 1: (faltering) And… you still have your other possessions. (gives a small smile then walks off)
(Job sighs exasperated, but doesn’t get time to say anything because servant 2 comes running into the scene.)
Servant 2: (more upset than servant 1) Sir, I’ve got good news and bad news.
Job: Okay, just go ahead and tell me the bad news first, I guess.
Servant 2: (timidly) Um, the Chaldeans formed, um three groups, and, um, made a raid on the camels and, um, took them and, um, struck down the servants with, um, the edge of the sword. (big sigh) I alone have escaped to tell you.
Job: Then what’s the good news?
Servant 2: At least you still have your family, right? (gives a thumbs up and walks off)
(Before Job can respond servant 3 comes running in.)
Servant 3: (visibly upset) I’ve got really bad news and a bit of good news. Job: (after a long deep breath) I guess I’ll have the really bad news first.
Servant 3: (crying) Your sons and daughters were all together eating and drinking wine in your oldest son’s house, and then a great wind came across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon everyone in the house, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you.
Job: (visibly shaken) What could possibly be the good news?
Servant 3: At least you still have your health? (gives a great big smile and walks off)
Job: (stands up, sighs deeply, and tears his robe) Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
(Job exits the scene. The Narrator and Satan enter onto the stage.)
Narrator: Now Satan came to present himself before God again, And the Lord said to Satan… (We hear God’s voice from offstage.)
God’s voice: From where have you come?
Narrator: Satan answered the Lord…
Satan: From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.
Narrator: And the Lord said to Satan…
God’s voice: Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to destroy him without reason.
Narrator: Then Satan answered the Lord…
Satan: Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life. But stretch out Your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse You to Your face.
Narrator: And the Lord said to Satan…
God’s voice: Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life.
Satan: What about the man’s wife?
God’s voice: I said nothing about her. Do whatever you wish.
Satan: (calculating, menacing) Then I shall leave her with him.
Narrator: So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and struck Job with sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. And Job took a piece of broken pottery a scratched himself while he sat in the ashes.
(Job and his wife come on stage. Job lays on the ground as his wife stares at him.) Job’s wife: (angrily) Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!
Job: You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil? (Job’s wife walks off)
Narrator: In all this Job did not sin with his lips. Now when Job’s four friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they come each from his own place, (Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar, and Elihu enter the scene.) Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, Zophar the Naamathite, and Elihu the son of Barachel. They made an appointment together to come to show him sympathy and comfort him. And when they saw him from a distance, they did not recognize him. And they raised their voices and wept, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads, and turned them toward heaven. And they sat with him on the ground for seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great. After this Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth saying...
Job: Curse the day I was born! Why did I not die at birth? Why is light given to him who suffers? I have no rest, only turmoil.
Eliphaz: Will you become impatient? When did the innocent ever perish? I heard a voice: 'Can a man be more righteous than God?' "Who will answer you? Man is born to trouble. As for me, I would seek God. Do not despise his discipline. He wounds, but he binds up.”
Job: My misery would outweigh the sand of the seas! You have proved no help. Show me how I have been wrong! Would I lie to you? O God, my life is but a breath! Therefore I will speak out. What is man, that you examine him? Why have you set me as your target?
Bildad: Does God pervert justice? Learn from past generations. He will not reject the blameless, nor will he uphold evildoers.
Job: How can a man dispute with God? His power is vast! But he destroys the innocent. If only there were a mediator between us. God, why do you reject the work of your hands? You know that I am not guilty! Why did you bring me out of the womb? Leave me alone.
Zophar: Should your babble go unanswered? God exacts less than your guilt deserves! Reach out to him and you will find hope.
Job: Who does not know all these things? With God are wisdom and power. He brings darkness into light. He destroys nations. I want to argue my case with God. Be quiet and I will speak. Though he slay me, I will hope in him. God, why do you hide your face? Man is like a fleeting shadow. If a tree is cut down, it will sprout again, but will a man live again? You overpower him forever.
Eliphaz: Your own mouth condemns you! Why do you turn against God? The wicked will be like a vine stripped of unripe grapes.
Job: You're miserable comforters! God has torn me and shattered me. But my prayer is pure. Even now, my advocate is on high! My spirit is broken. He has made me a byword. But come again all of you! I will not find a wise man among you. Where is my hope?
Bildad: Why are we stupid in your sight? Indeed, the light of the wicked goes out. His roots dry up and his branches wither.
Job: How long will you torment me? God counts me as an enemy. My closest friends abhor me. But I know that my redeemer lives!
Zophar: My understanding inspires me to answer. The triumph of the wicked is short. His food will turn sour in his stomach.
Job: Listen to me. Why do the wicked grow mighty? How often do they have trouble? Who repays them? Your answers are empty!
Eliphaz: Is not your wickedness great? You withheld bread from the hungry. Is not God high? Submit to him and be at peace.
Job: If only I knew where to find God! When he has tested me, I shall come forth as gold. But he does whatever he pleases. The wounded cry out, but God charges no one with wrong. Some rebel against the light; they are exalted a while, and then are gone.
Bildad: Dominion and awe belong to God. Who can be righteous before him? Even the stars are not pure in his sight!
Job: How you have helped the weak! Sheol is naked to God. The pillars of heaven tremble. These are the fringes of his ways! There is a mine for silver, but where is wisdom found? It is hidden from the eyes of all living. The fear of the Lord is wisdom! Oh, for the days when God watched over me! When I took my seat in the square. I was father to the needy and comforted the mourners. But now younger men mock me. They do not hesitate to spit at me. God has cast me into the mire. When I expected good, evil came. Does God not see my ways? Have I lied? Have I refused to help the poor? Have I put my trust in money? Let the Almighty answer me!
Elihu: (angry) I am young, but it is not only the old who are wise. I will have my say. Job, please listen to my words. God does speak, perhaps in a dream or through pain. He does this to deliver a person from the pit. It is unthinkable that God would do wrong. Can one who hates justice govern? God shows no partiality. Job speaks like the wicked! Even if you are righteous, what do you give to God? He does not answer because of the pride of evil men. You must wait for him! I have more to say on God's behalf. He is mighty but does not despise any. Who is a teacher like him? Remember to extol his work! God thunders with his voice. By the breath of God, ice is made. Do you know his wondrous works? He is great in power and justice!
God’s voice: I will question you. Where were you when I founded the earth? Who enclosed the sea? Can you bind the Pleiades? Do you mark when the deer is born? Will the wild ox serve you? Do you give the horse his might? Does the hawk fly by your wisdom?
Job: I have no answer.
God’s voice: Will you condemn me? Behold now, Behemoth, which I made. Can anyone pierce his nose? Can you catch Leviathan with a hook? Everything under heaven is mine. His breath sets coals ablaze. He is king over all the proud.
Job: I repent in ashes.
God’s voice: Eliphaz, You have not spoken rightly of me, as Job has.
Narrator: And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Then came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before, and ate bread with him in his house. And they showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil that the Lord had brought upon him. And each of them gave him a piece of money and a ring of gold. And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. He had also seven sons and three daughters. And he called the name of the first daughter Jemimah, and the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-happuch. And in all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job's daughters. And their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. And after this Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, four generations. And Job died, an old man, and full of days.

2021.12.06 09:07 TonyBrunetti Update from a Lenire user

Hi guys.
Quick update from my side:
Some time ago I posted my personal experience with Lenire. To make it short, I have discontinued using Lenire. Although my tinnitus seemed to improve after first using it, it has now gone back to what it was before (unfortunately). However, I still wanted to share some thoughts 5 months on:

  1. Does the device work? I still have a feeling that it did, at least for some time. This, of course, could have been the placebo effect. But the cause of my T seems to be my acid reflux that I still can't get under control. So, perhaps Lenire helped me in the beginning, but my acid reflux (which causes chronic ear pain in my case) may have destroyed any progress I've made with Lenire. Why do I write this? Because as most of you know, tinnitus can have a lot of different causes. So perhaps, it simply didn't work (sustainably) in my case. I guess what someone said over at TinnitusTalk some time ago pretty much seems up my experience: "It does something, but not sure what exactly".
  2. Should you try out Lenire? Given the significant cost of Lenire (€2700 here in Europe, which is approx. US$3000), I would recommend to wait for further study results. It appears to me that Lenire (as well as Susan Shore) are on to something with neuromodulation. But I believe they need to validate a lot more, if it actually (like really) helps and, if so, for which patient group.
So, my apologies for the somewhat negative post, but I just wanted to share my experience with the community. Of course, I'm just one patient and "n=1" is, statistically speaking, insignificant : )
For now, I'm going back to my tinnitus noisers and the antidepressant pills, which is a solution that works for me until science comes up with something better.

Hello everybody,
since I published the free version of Freesoul Deactivate Plugins some time ago to load plugins only on the pages where they are needed, I got many times this question: "how can I know which plugin I can disable on a specific page?". The PRO version that I've just launched has the answer to this question. See how to do it in the video.
